Mobile working (The manager’s perspective) – Ann Watson, Regional Service Manager (Care Services) and Alastair Lang, Service Delivery Manager (ICT Support and Marketing), Glasgow City Council

February 11, 2008 By Gary Marston Leave a Comment

Direct and Care Services is one of the largest departments within Glasgow City Council with some 9000 staff.  Primarily it delivers front line services including homecare, catering, cleaning and janitorial services.  A major challenge for the organisation has been supporting the people delivering these services with the right information systems, whether they are at home, in remote premises or unconnected environments.

Alistair and Ann discussed their mobile working journey five years down the line, where they are now with 400 people with either a laptop or PDA, accessing and updating information using both time tested and emerging technologies.  They discussed the challenges and approaches to deployment from a managerial perspective and the issues they have encountered and learned from over the last few years.
