Improving Services Through Flexible Working – Andrew Hughes, Worksmart Programme Manager, Wakefield Council

June 23, 2009 By Gary Marston Leave a Comment

Worksmart reamins a key part of the council’s plans to move ‘beyond excellence’. The objectives of the programme are ‘better services to citizens and improved value for money’. Receipts and running cost savings from surplus buildings have been ring-fenced to invest in the programme, which is delivering real benefits.

  • Requires leadership, resources and capacity
  • Culture change challenge in changing long-held beliefs
  • Transforming services, not just new IT kit
  • Capture benefits, particularly cashable savings.

Think strategically to future-proof your investment and manage risk for Mobile Worker Solutions

February 20, 2008 By Gary Marston Leave a Comment

Andrew Dawson, Technical Director, Integral Mobile Data

Mobile Computing solutions are a means to Business transformation, not an end in itself. Organisations that take the right strategic approach to what they want to achieve and how, can optimise their investments and cut through the complex technical and business challenges involved.

  • PEST factors affecting the long-term plans across the organization.
  • User buy-in to both the technology and changed working practices
  • Security and OTA system management.
  • Integration of data for a services-orientated approach with legacy systems – for example in the context of integrating services to citizens through single points of delivery points, in Social Care and Regulatory Enforcement.
  • Adaptability, scaleabilty and extensibility – business processes are dynamic and needs will change; new possibilities will emerge; supporting technology is constantly evolving.
  • And therefore, Total Cost of Ownership – On-costs to adapt to change can vary hugely.
